Whatever Next!

Altyre is a focus for investment, employment and enterprise. We encourage partnerships and invest in diversification. As a result of this, we are now seeing social and economic capital flow from the first phase of transformation of the estate, Blairs Steading. Firmly establishing the Estate as a regional hub for higher education, research and innovation, the Creative Campus is the jewel in Altyre's crown.

With an additional grant provided by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Historic Scotland, the Estate completed a £3.5millon restoration of the Grade A listed Blairs Farm Steading in 2017. Transforming a unique group of Italianate buildings for use as the Glasgow School of Art’s ‘Creative Campus’. Altyre now stands with Singapore,  Bejiing and Glasgow itself as one of 4 international teaching, research and innovation centres established by one of the world’s leading arts universities.

The next 5 years will see the completion of phase 2, bringing forward research labs, dedicated workspace and the development of student and staff accommodation.

The Estate has diversified into the use of our own sustainably sourced timber for biomass chipping. This allows us to heat the creative campus with renewable, self-sufficient energy.

The trial and test stages of an estate-wide shift to holistic farming methods to improve soil health are under way.

Altyre is a place with a passion for engaging young entrepreneurs with ideas and vision to re-energise the local rural economy.
